Astrological Insights: Navigate Change in Uncertain Times
March 2025 Eclipses and Neptune in Aries
I had meant to write about 2025 at the onset of the Chinese Year of the Wood Snake. However, an astrologer does not escape her own transits, and I have found myself in a whirlwind of deep transition.
I know a lot of internet buzz happened early in the year about the "rare planetary alignment." I can appreciate that many writers, YouTubers, and social media posters love to use astrology to gain attention. For example, the term "Supermoon" has been used so often, it may have lost its clickbait appeal. If you want to be grounded in astronomical events (which an astrologer interprets), EarthSky is a great resource - this is their post about the January 2025 "planetary alignment"
What I love best is the internet can create excitement about astronomy/astrology and encourage people to get outside and look at the sky. If I were to interpret why this recent alignment created so much interest at the start of 2025, it reminded us that we live in a solar system that has a cooperative order, which can reassure in chaotic times.
Transitioning Eras
2025 is a year when many astrologers forecast the end of the Kali Yuga from Hindu teachings — this era of over 430,000 years is said to be the most intense period of material drive, detachment from true spiritual connection and the apex of human suffering. It’s important to note that this era of destruction and darkness is linked to the male demon Kaliyuga, not the goddess Kali: Divine Mother and feminine energy.
Some theories speculate Kali Yuga ends at this Spring Equinox, others at the end of June with the Cancer New Moon.
Like the Age of Aquarius, there is no linear date for the yugas (there are 4) that all metaphysicians agree on, but it is of note that 2025 is one year that gathers concentration for both these eras. No doubt that is because Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto all will have moved into fire and air (yang signs). The slower moving planets mirror the big shifts that occur here on Earth.
Snake Energy / 9 Year
Snake symbolizes regeneration, skin-shedding, and strategic movement. It enters spaces with stealth and a low profile, never calling attention to itself. Snake imagery appears abundantly in depictions of ancient goddesses of love and fertility: Demeter, Isis, Brigid. Over centuries, the Eden story transformed into a warning that the snake was evil; yet Snake and the Tree of Life had long been symbols of the goddess and Earth's fecundity.
2025 is a nine year, echoing the shedding of skins; we move beyond what is known to birth a new reality. But 2025 is no ordinary 9 year. We must leap into the irrevocable change that our technology has wrought. The challenge has accelerated as technological experimentation seems to outpace mass human consciousness evolution. As we witness power grabs and brutal decisions by a small plutocracy who seem to determine humanity's fate, everything can feel as though it spirals beyond control.
This is only true if those in power remain unchallenged. Remember, the snake calculates. In the wood element, it represents regrowth. What we now witness is the destruction of elements of the status quo. The question becomes: what will replace it?
Snake skin returns to earth to fertilize soil. In the USA, revolution was forecast with Pluto in Aquarius; the Trump administration has begun to gut agencies and cut aid. Jobs are eliminated, which affect some states more severely than others. Children go hungry or lack necessary medical supplies due to the termination of USAID, which also impacts US companies and farms that generated these shipments. While some agencies may supposedly be reinstated, the chaotic slashing demonstrates a revolutionary indifference to the human cost.
The French Revolution also occurred during Pluto in Aquarius, and those affected by these changes in the US may indeed feel that the administration's attitude is simply “Let them eat cake” or “off with your head!" The current president speaks openly about his aspiration for kingship, and the government’s indifference to struggling communities mirrors the detached royalty of colonial history.
March 2025 Stellar Events
In 2025 March is the real kick-off month for this year of change, so here is an update of what to expect.
The action of this year ramps up: Jupiter (fortune/risk) went Direct 2/4, Mars (drive/action) went Direct 2/23 — both will be out of the shadow of their retrogrades in early May. This means over the next couple of months we can see optimism and movement increase. April 19 is when Mars returns to Leo, and the emphasis on well-being for children and youth accelerates. As the US continues to withhold services and alter education which affects the young, as well as youth and their promise in other nations, the backlash can be intense.
Venus (love/money) is Retrograde until April 13, not out of its shadow until mid-May, so the financial pinch many feel will add to the need to take action. It's critical that action taken has a real result with a robust return, or resentments will build and lead to alternative actions.
We move through darkness toward whatever comes next. Think about what you can make happen, especially now. With Venus Retrograde in Aries, we have an opportunity to reassess what we value and our commitment to that. Meanwhile, Mars in Cancer retraces the steps it took when retrograde (to suggest focus on home, family and secure resources, including food).
Mercury will retrograde March 15 for a few weeks; back up files now and practice less reactive responses to the chaotic news cycles.
The Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse occurs on March 14 at 23° Virgo 57' at 2:55 ET. This eclipse has a strong Saturn/Neptune influence as the Sun nests between the two in opposition to the Moon. The Virgo/Pisces polarity in its ideal stimulates creative visions for service and healing. With Saturn and Neptune, there's a powerful need to balance the desire to transcend (or escape) with routine and structure. Look to where these two signs fall in your personal horoscope and you can consider how to integrate high ideals into mundane results. A positive example would be a writer/artist who can decipher concepts into clear messages that help people navigate a challenge. Eclipses are fleeting but depending where they hit a person's horoscope, they can have a long-lasting effect. It's valuable to be alert during an eclipse so you can catch what might be a symbolic trigger or an invitation to respond with awareness.
The Aries Equinox always “restarts” the cycle around the zodiacal year; in the Northern Hemisphere it ignites Spring and in the Southern Hemisphere, Autumn. Regardless of the season, the symbolism begins the zodiacal New Year. The Sun is at 0° Aries 0’ on March 20 at 5:01 AM ET.
The Equinox horoscope supports ambitious projects that have reliable support. This spring is a powerful time to work with people who give one another space and commit to their respective follow through. Choose the right team and success is yours. A great deal can be accomplished for justice and with strong contractual agreements.
The March 29th New Moon / Solar Eclipse occurs at 6:58 AM ET at 9°Aries 0’. The reaction to this energy can be physically expressive. Look at what area of life is affected by the sign of Aries in your horoscope. It last occurred in 2007 and that might have significance for you. Part of a Saros series, this eclipse calls for caution to avoid accidents, violence, or awareness when exerting great physical effort for sudden events. It can manifest positively—perhaps through an exciting achievement—or negatively, like an injury.
The key is to undertake physical activities your body can handle while remaining open to opportunities presented to you. Remember, eclipse effects aren't limited to the day itself; they may unfold over the following week or even several months. This eclipse offers an invitation to stretch into experiences that test your physicality.
Another significant shift this spring is the fading sense of victimhood and paralysis. Neptune finally starts to leave Pisces. While Neptune in Pisces has fueled creativity, spiritual connections, and new forms of artistic expression, it has also contributed to illusion, manipulation, and escapism. As Neptune enters Aries on March 30 at 8 AM ET, we experience a shift toward action and assertion. Though it briefly retrogrades back into Pisces in October, this new energy will gain momentum throughout the year — time to embrace your Creative Spiritual Warrior!
Every planetary movement has a spectrum of possible manifestations. At its highest, Neptune in Aries can inspire collective action and spiritual awakening. However, its lower expression can fuel aggression and dogma, particularly among those who believe their religious views are the only truth. We already see the rise of religious extremism in various nations, including the United States, a country founded on the principle of separation of church and state. The strategic effort to dismantle this separation has been decades in the making and is now reaches full force. We see the consequences of religions that believe the wealthy are blessed by God when those with wealth have no moral compass.
The U.S. is one nation at a crossroads but its choices affect the rest of the world due to its wealth and power. Some might argue that the point of no return has already passed due to rifts within its branches and the loss of trust with historic allies. The country's structure was built on checks and balances—but will they hold? That depends on individual choices.
As we navigate this moment, each of us must decide where to focus our energy. Neptune in Aries fuels imagination and faith with direction, passion, and decisiveness. If this all sounds too conceptual for you, or you feel disconnected from this movement, the real question is: Where will you stand when change demands action?
Part of the confusion as Neptune dissolves into Aries and will retrograde back into Pisces, is the flurry of changes with proposed bills, treaties and events… “bait and switch” seems to be the norm. Although it’s a challenge not to be overwhelmed, one should be wary of the erosion of rights and freedoms.
If the SAVE bill passes in the US, voters will be required to present ID to vote, which will disenfranchise many who cannot vote in person—including the disabled, many students, and those living abroad. Additionally, crucial services that help low-income individuals access food and healthcare will be eliminated. Another major deterrent to absentee voting is the push to privatize the USPS, which threatens the fairness and accessibility of elections. The government’s indifference to struggling communities mirrors the detached royalty of colonial history an echo to both the American and French revolutions of the last pass of Pluto in Aquarius.
Where we go from here will be different. Many people view change from an armchair perspective, believing elected officials will create the world they promise. But that won’t work because real change requires involvement. Some will take action when their jobs or way of life are at stake. Others will simply look away.
In various parts of the world, citizens have little choice in determining their future. In 2025, we see nations that once enjoyed freedom now embracing nationalistic leaders to dictate their path. This will not end well. With Pluto in Aquarius, we are in a period of unrest, where governments and systems that fail to serve the collective will face upheaval.
Clients often ask me what message of hope I can share. The answer depends on perspective. If you’re waiting for life to return to "normal," my question is: What version of normal are you okay with? Many of us have enjoyed relative safety, access to services, and comforts—but these came at a hidden cost, often benefiting a select few rather than the whole. We are in a time of necessary shifts. The passive desire for change, without true action, has created a situation where change will now be forced upon us, possibly through turmoil before real transformation emerges.
Think of that snake shedding its skin. The process happens because growth makes the old skin too tight and inflexible. It also helps remove parasites. This shedding we are witnessing allows space for younger voices and the removal of societal parasites—those who hoard vast wealth not through hard work and creativity, but by leveraging power and influence over governments.
The working majority sustain the lifestyles of an elite few who live extravagantly without sharing the burdens of society.
